A PIECE OF CULTURE

THANKSGIVING :

In 1920 ,the MAYFLOWER (English ship) left Plymouth (in England) crossing the ocean to the new continent.

There were 120 passengers ON THE SHIp .These people of deep religious beliefs

wanted to be free to practise their faith in a new place .America was the continent of future prosperity and wealth and these pilgrims travelled far away their hometown to find a better life.

The pilgrims settled down in which now is MASSACHUSSETS and founded the first English colony in America called PLYMOUTH.

The first winter was hard for them and many of the pilgrims died of hunger and cold. The natives americans decided to help them and established good relationships with the new inhabitants. Both natives and colonists shared the first prosperous harvest celebrating a party where they ate and drank .That was THE FIRST THANKSGIVING.

Nowadays ,Americans remember that event with a family lunch the fourth Thursday of November. The eat TURKEY .CORN and other delicious food
